Welcome to The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara… in this installment of our podcast, we scare up some tricks that might treat your child to a fantastic Halloween!
Halloween can be loads of fun, but despite the favorite character costume and the promise of candy, some kids can become overly frightened. It happens to first-timers, as well as older kids, and it’s perfectly normal. But, how can you help your child learn to enjoy the holiday?
Educate your children on what they can expect on Halloween this year.
Reassure them they won’t have to do anything they don’t want to do.
Give them set-up play = opportunities to overcome their fear ahead of time.
Don’t push kids into situations in which they are scared if they don’t enjoy the imagination of the holiday.
Monitor television and movies more closely this time of year.
Offer alternative options for participation that make them more comfortable.
Also, remind your children of the safety rules of the evening – stay in a group, don’t go into anyone’s home without mom or dad, stay on the sidewalk, etc…
Last, but certainly not least, Dr. Pete tackles the tricky-treaty issue of how much candy kids should have on Halloween night. His answer may surprise you, but you have to listen to find out what it is. So, click below and enjoy the show!
