Welcome to The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara… this week, we address one of the most difficult situations during the holidays, divorce. Regardless of whether you’re newly divorced, or have been for years, the holidays can insert extra stress into your family’s activities. The holidays can absolutely be a joyful time for kids (and even the divorced parents) if you keep in mind a few things Dr. Pete points out in this week’s broadcast.
Children of divorce may have to travel between locations more often during the holidays, and they may have to continue to deal with ongoing tensions between ex-spouses. They may also have to deal with relatively unfamiliar new family members and the stress and anxiety of spending the holidays with people they don’t know well. If there’s been any change in the family situation on either side (new marriage, new baby, etc…), the holidays are the time when your children will likely feel this change most keenly.

The holiday season is a time of reflecting on the many blessings in our lives, but it’s also a prime teaching moment. Welcome to The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara… respectively the Tiger Woods and Gabby Reece of the podcast world!
All kidding aside, giving your child a healthy introduction to the world of sports will certainly set the tone for her or his interest in it for the rest of their lives. While Tiger was putting on the green at the Tonight Show at the age of three, there are not too many other phenoms like him. The object of participating in a sport is to develop interest and basic skills, not to aspire to a hall of fame or the championship finals. To that end, all children should be allowed to play, and the goals of enjoyment, skill building, and sportsmanship must be paramount early on.

Welcome to The Real Parenting Show with Dr. Pete & Sara… who talk this week about how to help your son or daughter in one of the last major milestone of their childhood – adjusting to college life.
Freshmen beginning college usually have expectations about college life long before actually leaving home. Some students look forward to college, and are eager to experience more freedom and adventure. Other individuals may be enthusiastic about college initially, but then discover that the actual experience falls short of their expectations. They don’t feel happy, comfortable, or secure in their new environment. In addition, there are some students who know that leaving home will be difficult and, therefore, dread the thought of packing and going to college.
